Abstract
Ms. EY Yin, a 66-year-old widow from Cambodia, transformed her life through support from Save the Earth Cambodia and the GEF Small Grants Programme. After years of poverty and uncertainty, she joined a savings group and learned practical skills in small-scale livestock and home gardening. Starting with a small loan, she raised chickens and pigs, gradually increasing her income and independence.
Through successive investments and careful management, Ms. Yin was able to achieve food security, purchase personal items, and regain confidence and dignity. Her story illustrates how targeted microfinance, community support, and capacity building can empower rural women to rise out of poverty and build sustainable livelihoods.
