Ziauddin Hyder, PhD

Global Health and Nutrition Expert

Ziauddin Hyder is an accomplished expert in health and nutrition, bringing over 30 years of experience in managerial, operational, and advisory roles across organizations such as the World Bank and BRAC, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia. His work has centered on advancing multisectoral approaches to improve maternal, child and adolescent health and nutrition, demonstrating professional leadership in global health initiatives.

A pioneer in innovative nutrition interventions, he led research and development efforts on micronutrient powder (MNP) as a solution to address nutritional deficiencies in young children. His efforts in high-burden countries have supported the development of comprehensive nutrition policies, strategies, and action plans. In addition, he has directed numerous multisectoral teams to design and implement large-scale, donor-supported health and nutrition operations, further impacting communities across Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

With a strong academic foundation, Ziauddin Hyder has contributed to academia by developing food and nutrition curricula for the University of Toronto and the University of the Philippines. He has also played a pivotal role in the Scale Up Nutrition (SUN) movement through advocacy and knowledge-sharing efforts. Committed to fostering the next generation of health professionals, he has mentored young professionals at institutions including BRAC University, the University of Toronto, and the University of the Philippines.

Holding a PhD in nutritional epidemiology, Ziauddin Hyder has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has been recognized with numerous research grants and awards. His contributions to global health continue to shape impactful, evidence-based approaches to nutrition and health care delivery in developing regions.
